Well, it’s been quite a week at Half Moon Books. Last Friday, we performed our poetry play, ‘Town Below the Steps’ (written by the Otley Town Poet, Matthew Hedley Stoppard and featuring the work of 16 Otley Poets) at the Writing on Air Festival at Chapel FM in Seacroft, for the second time. The play was both broadcasted live and filmed. We received some lovely feedback, both from the live audience and from listeners at home and it has made us realise that our little play has legs and we’re very excited about where we’ll perform it next. The legs bit was confirmed by ‘Town Below the Steps’ making the long list of The Saboteur Awards 2017 in both the Best Collaborative Work and Wild Card categories! We are obviously delighted with this and would like to thank each and every person who took the time to vote for our poetry play.

We were also delighted (even ecstatic) that our anthology ‘Half Moon: Poems About Pubs’ made the anthology shortlist! We are very proud of our pub anthology. It would seem many poets and poetry fans enjoyed the book we launched on National Poetry Day in 2016. The book contains poems from far and wide and continues to sell – a testament to all the fine poets who contributed to it.

Of course, it goes without saying, now we’ve got this far, we’d certainly appreciate your continued support throughout the voting process and who knows – we may well have a winner on our hands!

Congratulations to all the other anthologies on the shortlist, some of which included poets also featured in ‘Half Moon: Poems About Pubs.’

Those still wishing to throw their poetry hats into the ring to perform at our Spoken Word Competition, still have until 11th April to be included in the draw. Please email your interest to openmic@owfpress.com. The competition is being held in conjunction with the prize-giving for our inaugural Otley Poetry Prize at Korks Wine Bar, on Saturday 29th April, from 2 pm. Who knows, we might have our very own prize-winning anthology to celebrate along with the winners of the Otley Poetry Prize and the Open Mic.

Thank you so much, from all at Half Moon Books.
